It’s great when research confirms anecdotal experience. Sitting in on the session The 2017 CIO Agenda did just that.
In the presentation, two Gartner analysts presented research that showed the demonstrated habits, technology adoption and priorities of top performing companies across different industries.
Two main conclusions stood out:
1. Top performing companies are past the digitization phase (becoming digital) and are leveraging a digitalization phase, where they can put their digital strategy and technologies to maximum use helping the business succeed.
2. Top performers focus on innovation rather than technology to gain a competitive advantage. They realize that technologies will always change. It’s what you do with them that is key to setting yourself apart from the competition.
I don’t know if every person who stopped by our booth represented a top performing company. But I do know that the majority are focused on what they can do with new technology (innovation), not just the technology itself. They want to implement Agile, develop new applications and systems not because they can, but because they understand the value to the customer, client and business.
Not all are there yet. Which, given the analyst data that no industry has reached a digital tipping point yet, makes sense. Companies and people are still trying to figure out the best ways to implement a digitalization strategy to power their innovation work. We are here to help them do it.
